Go for it

If you're out in front don't look back, just keep on going that's the best advice, it's always mistake to wait, if you have the lead press home that advantage. Far better to be out of sight than out of mind, if it gives the opposition just a sniff that you are slowing down, or dare I say waiting, think of Aesop's hare and the tortoise here and you won't go far wrong.

Look at this position, player one (RED) was behind, but then rolled a windfall roll that took him out in front, instead of pressing this advantage home, he stayed with pressurising the back checkers by only coming out to the 16pt leaving himself just 7 pips away. Had he taken the roll he would have been far ahead, he didn't, he could have made that move, then waited for his midpoint to put extra pressure on the opposition's back two checkers. He didn't.

Instead he lost the game with the opposition's 6-1 on the next roll.

If it's a race remember the hare and the tortoise.

Gammon Time or how to save your bacon!

We have seen what can happen when the plan is to play a waiting game or play safe, it usually backfires. In this example it is right and indeed proper to go for a frontal assault, the no mercy and in for the kill approach. By hitting twice here the increase of gammon (and winning) chances increases by over 20% and by the same ratio the chances of winning the game also increase. So in gammoning you risk nothing, except a very good score.

When developing gammon plays it is possible to the assume risks involved and target accordingly. In this, the opposition is already rocking; it is just a simple matter of applying the right pressure to knock them down.
