Backgammon Beginners
|
Playing backgammon is fun at any age. Winning is even better. How to win even for the beginner is the challenge, that’s why much of the fun of backgammon in the beginning is in the learning of the game.
So we’re ready to play, but t even with something as simple and as fundamental as the dice rolls, there are rules to follow s, such as the dice must always be rolled together, never individually. They must land flat on the right-hand section of the game board. Should they land on a piece or off the board, or not lie flat, and then you roll again. Also your turn isn’t over with the dice until the opposition takes up the dice. Should the opponent roll their dice before the other player picks up their dice, that roll is deemed void and must re-roll, once the first player has picked up the dice .It sounds complicated isn’t, just remember don’t roll before the player has picked up their own dice.
The next thing to know is how your pieces are positioned. Defined in three ways, communication, distribution and diversification. Point one good communication in backgammon means keeping your checkers within six points of each other. It is so much easier to help out a piece if it is in danger from the opposition, either covering it or finding a suitable safe place for it.
Distribution follows communication, in that you want your pieces divided evenly among the points you occupy. With good communication comes good distribution, so no more than three pieces on two points instead of two on four, rarely will you want a point with six pieces.
Better distribution provides distinct advantages to your rolls.
Finally, diversification, which compliments both communication and distribution, because with pieces well distributed your odds improve with the chances of better rolls on your turn.
Little things win games. like doubles on your first roll lets the player move twice in that round and re-roll. But did you know that if you roll double sixes on your first roll, you get to move four times in that round. When you are trying to create a block in your home board, this is the perfect start. and helps from having to move pieces individually.
These extra tips and hints give you an advantage over the opposition but are just the tip of an iceberg that has much more below the surface than you can possibly imagine. You will only learn these secrets as you get more and more experienced in the game.
