Mobile Women Gamers

Here’s an interesting statistic: according to a recent survey/ research :
Women make up 59 percent of all consumers who play games on cell phones, according to Parks Associates , a research firm. And they drive more than 60 percent of the revenue in almost every genre of mobile games, according to research firm Telephia Inc.
So the days of girls just speed typing texts on the busy commuter train home, or seated at a bar sipping a Manhattan maybe on the wane. Of course texting has now become part of our 21st century vocabulary, so that won’t disappear altogether. but the development of woman gamers using their mobiles to play is something quite new.
This is not just a fad either, the more thinking that is required the more women enjoy the game, whereas men opt for an action ‘shoot em up’ : women are playing the more sophisticated games such as backgammon or chess. Backgammon in particular has entered into the virtual world with an unrelenting energy forging new sites everyday ,so it not surprising that this game has transferred onto the mobile circuit with such veracity and appeal.
The advent of online gambling in backgammon has also taken it away from its proverbial traditions opening up new vistas in entertainment to a global audience, but possibly the appeal of this new form of backgammon game is in its intimacy, as player competes only against one other player, :there are no multi player combinations, just one on one, therefore the game play is much more condensed, with two players involved in a match over a small screen, pitting their skills and wits against each other and though the battlefield maybe small, the intensity for the game never diminishes even in this compact space.
This is true of online backgammon as well, where the screen is of course much larger.
Women are beginning to discover another way to entertain themselves, which allows them to be a little more private, but never the less a little excited too. Next time you see a woman smiling to herself as she peers down at her mobile phone, it might just be her opening move in a new game she’s playing, or she could just be playing backgammon.
